Description
This is a dry to semi-dry rosé of convincing quality, held in an elegant style that is excellent as an aperitif wine. Les Fumées Blanches takes its name from the mist that often envelops the vineyards in the morning. These banks of fog also help to keep the cold of the night at bay before the sun rises in the morning, and interplay between day and night temperatures gives the grapes the right springiness, so that ripe fruit is balanced by a fresh acid structure; perfect for the production of rosé. In the 2015 vintage, Les Fumées Blanches Rosé Gris de Sauvignon is a blend of 85% Sauvignon Gris and 15% Sauvignon Blanc, which François Lurton sources from various locations in the southwest corner of France. Sauvignon Gris is a mutation of Sauvignon Blanc that resembles a blue rather than a green grape. For the same reason, you can make rosé wine from this rare variety, which is macerated coolly for half a day, during which the wine's very delicate color is drawn out.
